Highest Paid NBA Player Gets Injured & Lessens Value
News | 2 years ago
Last July 2016, Mike Conley and the Memphis Grizzlies agreed to the max contract of $153 million for 5 years. Besides the point that we'd like to give an award to his agent, we do not mean to pick on him while he's down. He's in the NBA. The best league in the planet with the highest salary.
It still baffles us as he's not in the top 3 or 5 best players in the world. When the season started, he's not even in the top 5 in his position in the western conference! Who knows if he'll even make it in the east. Given those facts, it is safe to assume that he will not be an All Star this year, nor has he ever been.
Looks like Andrew Harrison will see more time or Grizzlies might try Vince at the point small forward if they want to keep things slower. No matter how you spin it, Memphis is on the losing end here. They have an almost unknown point guard whom they cannot trade until his 4th year where his contract can be used to shed salary cap.
With this injury and his contract, there will be less players they can resign or attract free agents. Why bother playing with a point guard who cant even crack the All Star team while he gets paid more than everyone else?
Does not make sense. Memphis lose unless the new CBA would allow them to amnesty Conley which would still require them to pay his full contract.
