Take a look at Steph Curry’s phenomenal movement and the work that he puts in to get these points. He goes all over the floor, and finally gets the ball back, pump fakes, gets open and knocks down the three pointer.
Chasing him around is already extremely tough, and when he is making heat checks like this one, Golden State is nearly impossible to beat.
Ultimately that was the case as the Warriors swept the Blazers on their way to the finals. But let’s go deeper in the game. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it.
It’s extremely rare that I see 2 players on the same team ending up with a triple double.
And besides Steph Curry, maybe even a more valuable impact was the one that Draymond Green had on the game.
Just watch this play. He goes from guarding Harckless, to recognizing the danger and switching down low on Aminu, then back to Harckless, and ultimately getting the block on Aminu.
This defensive presence that Green has for Golden State is absolutely incredible, and often goes overlooked, so I will make a more in depth video about that in one of the 9 days rest that the Warriors have between now and the finals. Yeah they can now chill and prepare for either the Bucks or the Raptors for more than a week.
Anyway back to the game.
Ultimately the obvious difference in firepower that Golden State had in the series was too big, as they would casually throw 2 defenders at Lillard or Mccollum whenever they liked, forcing the ball out of their hands and forcing another Blazer to try and beat them.
In this game even the surprising offensive explosion of Myers Leonard wasn’t enough. But it’s worth mentioning that he really shot lights out in this game going 12 for 16 and 5 for 8 from three.
As you can see many of these looks are off of the Golden State double teams, and this was the first time in this series that a player other than Dame or CJ got more than 20 points.
Think about that for a second and this sweep will become crystal clear for you.
Often even myself on this channel would get to the nitty gritty details of the game, but sometimes it’s just that simple. The Trailblazers didn’t have enough firepower to go against the Warriors.
Yes, they had leads, even double digit ones, but when it matters, when they need a shot down the stretch even in this game as you can see here it’s 1 of the 2 stars exclusively. And that’s the end of the story.
Regardless, this season ended up as a huge success for Portland as they will now probably focus on adding 1 or 2 pieces here and there instead of thinking about blowing it up, like they were after last year’s first round exit.
As for Golden State, again, the injured players have more time to recover, they can prepare for the finals and wait for their opponent. The worst combination for anyone outside the Bay Area trying to break up this dynasty.
